troubleshooting

  • 1. How to fix your firewall/router if you are connecting through a private IP address

If you’re connecting through a network using a private IP address, the firewall/router must:

    • Allow TCP traffic to port 25793
    • Statically map UDP ports 22556 & 22557 on Broadcaster to ports on the firewall public IP address (port forwarding).

For port forwarding assistance for the Checkpoint S-box, please click here.

  • 2. Finding connection details and definitions of RayV terms

Some troubleshooting scenarios require that you examine the RayV Broadcaster connection details displayed in the Information window. To view the RayV Broadcaster connection details, click on the Information tab. The Information Window appears.

The following table provides definitions for each of the terms in the Information window:

    Term Definition
Version The version number of your copy of the RayV Broadcaster
Channel ID The name of your broadcasting channel
    User Your username
Port The P2P incoming port, the UDP port used for video streaming, the same UDP is used also for inquiring network configuration at broadcaster load. Default 22556.
Port Pairs The number of P2P incoming port pairs. The value should always be 1.
Connection to RayV Network The status of your connection to the RayV Server
Local Address The local IP address and port of the broadcasting computer. If the broadcasting computer is not on a local network, the local address is the same as the external address.
External Address The external IP address and port of the broadcasting computer’s network. If the broadcasting computer is not on a localnetwork, the external address is the same as the local address.
NAT Type The method of network address translation currently being used
NAT Can Hairpin Indicates whether or not you can broadcast to local network viewers using local IP addresses
UPNP Indicates whether or not a UDP port number is assigned for the broadcasting computer
Upload Rate The rate at which broadcast data is uploaded to directly connected peers, should be around 550kbps per peer.
Directly Connected Peers Number of peers directly connected to the broadcaster, should be 1.
  • 3. You cannot join a channel and receive the following error:

Some errors prevent successful access to the RayV server and joining to your channel. The error message appears at the Information window under ‘Connection to RayV Network’ (see Viewing Connection Details). Locate your error in the table below. If your error does not appear on this page, please contact us.

Error Message Possible Causes Steps to Take
    (TRANS_E_SERVICE_TRANSPORTFAILURE)

TCP Port 25793 is blocked by a firewall.

    Internet connection is down.

    • Contact your system administrator or ISP and request that TCP port 25793 be opened.
    • Make sure your internet connection is up.
    (TRANS_E_UNKNOWN)

UDP port 22556 is blocked by the firewall.

    Internet connection was down.

    • Make sure your internet connection is up.
    • Exit the broadcaster application from the taskbar icon and run it again.
    • Contact your system administrator or ISP and request that UDP port 22556 be opened.
    (TRANS_E_SERVICE_AUTHENTICATION) Incorrect username or password
    • Verify that the RayV Broadcaster is using the correct username and password:
      • a. Enter the User Management under the Information tab.
      • b. Carefully re-enter your password in the Password field.
      • c. Re-enter your password in the Confirm field.
      • d. Click Save.
      • e. Restart the RayV Broadcaster Server.
    • Contact RayV to verify that you have been issued the correct username and password.
    (TRANS_E_SERVICE_CHANNELUNKNOWN) Incorrect channel ID
    • Contact RayV for support
    (TRANS_E_SERVICE_CHANNELPERMISSIONS) Broadcaster permissions problem
    • Contact RayV for support
  • 4. Channel is joined but there is no video streaming. The Directly Connected Peers row of the Information window reads 0.

The UDP post used for video streaming is probably blocked by a firewall. Contact your system administrator and request to open the p2p UDP port.

  • 5. Channel is joined but there is no video streaming. The Directly Connected Peers row of the Information window reads 1, but the upload rate is 0.

One of the following three situations has probably occurred: Either you have not uploaded any input into the Control Room, the Live button is not pushed for any input in the Control Room, or the On-Air button is not pushed. Make sure both the Live and the On-Air buttons are colored red.

  • 6. Channel is joined but video streaming is disturbed with ‘buffering’ message.

The Directly Connected Peers row of the Information window reads 1, but the upload rate is less the 500kbps. You probably have insufficient upload bandwidth. The RaYV Broadcaster requires a minimum of 1 MB stable upload speed for fluent transmission. Make sure you have the minimum required upload speed.

  • 7. When streaming live feed from video capture card, video appears with vertical lines.

Chances are the de-interlace feature is not enabled. Edit your camera source and enable the de-interlace option.

  • 8. Video was streaming properly for a while and then stopped.

Your active playlist is probably not configured to play in a loop. When transmitting video files create a playlist and mark the “Repeat” check box.

  • 9. The error “Error while preparing input” has occurred.

Either the Broadcaster has failed to load the source, a device or video file type is not supported, or one of the sources in the playlist is not supported. Try to preview each and every source before adding them, and remove unsupported files.

  • 10. There was an error loading the RayV Broadcaster or you received the “Channel server timed out” error.

There are two possible causes: Either TCP Port 8080 is busy or blocked by a firewall, or a corrupted source or playlist file is preventing the Broadcaster from starting correctly. To solve this issue, please do the following:

    • Make sure that no other installed application (such as a Tomcat server) is using port 8080.
    • Make sure your firewall rules allow for the port to be used.
    • The Broadcaster configuration files are located under the application data folder: %appdata%/Rayv/BroadcasterConfig.xml, sources.xml, and playlist.xml. When removing the sources or playlist configuration files, the application will start as new.
    • Before opening the Broadcaster, make sure that no other instance of the Broadcaster is running. In the Windows Task Manager, find and stop the following processes: Wscript.exe and Javaw.exe
